Gene Heady

About

Eugene (“Gene”) J. Heady is nationally recognized for his experience and knowledge as a litigator, arbitrator, and counselor in construction law.  He has over 40 years’ experience as a problem solver in the construction industry, including over 30 years’ experience in handling large, complex construction litigation and arbitration at Smith Currie—a nationally recognized law firm focused on construction law and government contracting.  Gene is rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell and is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s national Panel of Construction Arbitrators and is also a member of the AAA’s Construction Mega Project Panel.

Gene literally grew up in the construction industry.  Gene’s father was a successful electrical contractor, NECA member, and member of the Academy of Electrical Contracting.  Unlike most construction attorneys, Gene has hands-on experience.  Gene has worked with the tools; worked at the drafting table; and worked as a project engineer, project manager, and at the helm of an electrical construction business.

Following a successful career in the electrical construction business, Gene began practicing law in 1996.  He assists owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, sureties, developers, and manufacturers in avoiding and resolving disputes related to construction projects throughout the continental U.S., Alaska, and the Caribbean.  His work involves private, local, state and federal government contracts and commercial, industrial and institutional construction projects.

Gene earned an Engineering degree from the University of Hartford, where he was a member of the Kappa Mu Honorary Engineering Society, and earned a law degree from Texas Tech, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.  Gene is a prolific writer.  He has published numerous works related to the construction industry and is a frequent lecturer on construction law topics.  He has served as both an Editor and a contributing author of the legal treatise Alternative Clauses to Standard Construction Contracts, which is now in its Sixth Edition.
